Pikasilla has always been the southern gate to the Lake Võrtsjärv
and an important waterway. The Väike (i.e. small) Emajõgi River, which is 83.6 kilometres long, flows there and comprises the largest Lake Võrtsjärv inflow due to its catchment basin of 1273 square kilometres.
The riverside rest and recreation zone was constructed in 2006 and includes a proper wharf, auxiliary buildings, car park, stadium and drilled well.
